"The Boss" sends Hall of Famer Yogi Berra, a coach with the Yankees at the time, to tell Gossage to lose the beard. Goose stretches the policy to its limits, trimming the beard down to a mustache that reaches the corners of his mouth. The Fu Manchu-style 'stache that grows as a result has become legendary in baseball and facial hair circles, eventually reaching enshrinement in the Baseball Hall of Fame. |
