Perry and Croft were both in the Royal Artillery but didn’t meet until many years later. “My agent, Ann [Callender], was David’s wife. She terrorised him to go to see me in plays and I got a small part in [BBC sitcom] Hugh and I, which David produced.” Perry gave Croft the scripts of a couple of episodes of his Home Guard comedy, Croft liked them and Dad’s Army was born. |
