There are two problems here: first, that there is an utter lack of diversity – in ethnicity, race, size – in commercial advertising. The mayor’s office is right to raise this issue – it is a public health concern. (Though the contradiction within the campaign is disappointing – they want girls to focus less on their appearance ... yet the campaign’s main message is that they are beautiful?) |
