A variation on this approach is so-called multi-manager funds, also known as funds of funds. Here the overall manager still aims for a mix of assets, but achieves the balance by buying a variety of funds rather than individual shares and bonds. This way you are not entrusting all decisions – or both stages of the portfolio-building process – to one individual; he or she handles only the first phase.
