On the Saturday it's the turn of XH558, the last airworthy Avro Vulcan bomber, to make an appearance. The veteran of the Cold War – it carried Britain's nuclear deterrent – also saw action in the Falklands War, bombing the airfield at Port Stanley. It was due to be retired at the end of this summer because the airframe is nearing the end of its certified flying life, but the Vulcan to the Sky Trust has managed to find a series of complex engineering solutions that will keep it in the skies for another two years. |
