An early work from the mid-50s, it fuses recordings of a boy’s voice with electronic effects to create something at once alienating and comforting, austerely technological and strangely natural. But the sound effects of a thousand bad sci-fi films have rendered its sound world dated, replacing a bracing sense of experimentation with myriad hackneyed associations. |
